The common way of fundraising leads to activities which are comparatively extreme and somehow separate from our normal everyday lives, like jumping out of a plane. Yet it is possible to raise money for what we believe in by dedicating a period of time from our everyday lives
Maybe it's even more fruitful for us to give one day or a whole week of wages from our normal working lives to a cause we support. We hope that by changing our intention towards our work, we will re-energize what we are doing and encourage positivity in our relationships in the work place. Let's see what happens when we work for something else; something larger than ourselves and our family.

The experience of other participants in the experiment
I offered to give yoga classes on donation basis for Open Centre firstly because I saw it as an accessible and straight forward way for me to raise money. The second reason is because I wanted to see what it’s like to do what I would normally do to sustain myself financially for the benefit of other people and not just me.
Having started to explore this particular dynamic of ‘working’ there seems to be a more spacious quality about it than before. Whilst I’m teaching there is generally a lessening sense of myself – due to the core of the yoga practice coming through, ie, it is necessary to step out of the way of oneself. But now there is an obvious tone of connectedness about it – that the connection goes beyond myself and the people in the room and reaches many, many others besides. This in itself is revealing a truly nourishing and fulfilling way of not doing what I love.
